Lexie Hembree

My name is Lexie Hembree. I live in Rainbow City with my husband Frank. I have a daughter, two stepdaughters and six grandchildren.

I am a graduate of the State University of New York system with degrees in math/science and Mortuary Science. I was employed as a funeral director/ embalmer specializing in reconstructive surgery in New York.

I have always been involved with athletics and exercise most of my life. It started as a high school and college athlete and continued with teaching and coaching youth soccer, basketball and softball. The gym has been a place for my emotional well being and a great coping mechanism during difficult times in my life. I started teaching group fitness in 1980 in Upstate New York.

While in New York my classes included group fitness, step, Senior fitness, and fitness classes for high school and AA baseball teams.

When I moved to Alabama 20+ years ago I continued teaching Senior Fitness at Ladiga Assisted Living in Jacksonville, AL. My husband and moved to Rainbow City 11 years ago and I retired for instructing classes. I continued to be a faithful exercise member at the gym. After much thought, prayer and encouragement from several of the current instructors I decided to get my recertification in group fitness, step and Silver Sneakers classic. At age 70 I am once more leading, encouraging and enjoying teaching classes.

My philosophy in regards to fitness, is to challenge yourself to be the Best You for that day. Healthy lifestyle and exercise will continue to improve our day to day living. I want to encourage each class member to be able to accomplish the physical things that they enjoy to have a quality of life. I want to be that inspiration to find joy at the fitness classes.
